Royal Park History

The Royal Park Football Netball Club (FNC) in the Maryborough district has a rich history, originating in the late 1800s/early 1900s as a dominant local “Tigers” team in the MCDFL, known for family culture, successful eras (like 1960s-80s premierships), though facing recent struggles before merging/evolving, focusing on junior development and a hopeful future after challenges in the 2000s.

  • Early Days: An Australian Rules football presence existed in the region (Maryborough) from the 1870s, with Royal Park forming as a distinct club, known by its yellow & black colors.
  • Dominant Era (1960s-1980s): The club, often called the “Tigers,” was a powerhouse in the Maryborough District Football League (MDFL/MCDFL), winning multiple senior and junior premierships, with notable players like Tom Noonan.
  • Mid-1990s Success: The club also saw netball success with multiple A & B Grade premierships in the mid-90s.
  • Later Challenges: After strong periods, the club faced decline, losing finals and struggling for numbers, with significant losses of players for work in the early 2000s.
  • Focus on Juniors: By the 2010s, the club emphasized junior development, with successes in junior finals and goals to build a strong future.
  • Evolution/Merger: In 2023, the club celebrated its long history, hinting at an exciting future and a transition or merge with other entities within the MCDFNL, aiming to preserve its legacy.
